The building starts way before a nail hits the wood. Planning is a crucial cornerstone of success that helps us achieve a desired outcome effectively and efficiently.
What are blueprints?
Blueprints are an essential tool used in construction that serve as a visual representation of a project. It is a detailed plan that serves as a guide during the building process to ensure that the project is executed accurately and efficiently. Blueprints, also referred to as drawings or plans, serve as a communication tool between clients, architects, engineers and tradespeople to ensure that all project specifications are met during production.
Construction blueprints will consist of a plot plan, foundation plan, floor plan, elevations, sections and details.
The Plot Plan
The plot plan is a birds eye view of the property. It states the boundary lines, existing abutting roads, location, orientation, dimension, and setbacks of the proposed building, the location of utility and drainage lines like septic/sewer, well/water lines, driveways.
The Floor Plan
The floor plan illustrates the layout of the rooms within the floor and states the location of openings from a bird’s eye view.
The Elevation Plan
The elevations drawings show the finished appearance of the structure on all sides looking at it as if you were standing in front of it.
The Sections Plan
The sections drawings are a “sliced through” view that depicts the details of the layers of a segment or a structural component.
The Details Plan
The details provide the specific finishing details of a project including style and dimensions of windows, hardwares, types and colour of materials.
Blueprints ensure that the project meets all regulations and building codes. This means that the project meets all safety standards and structural measures ensuring the safety of the product.
Why should I pay for a set of drawings?
Blueprints put ideas together into a visual medium. They are key to producing a product that meets your specific needs. It helps contractors determine needed materials, equipment and (wo)manpower thereby providing accurate cost estimation and eliminating unnecessary waste. It facilitates communication, collaboration, and co-creation between different trades to ensure the best possible project outcome.
Where do I get one?
The great news is that you don’t have to draw it out yourself. Architects and engineers use softwares to do the job for us! What is required from you is INSPIRATION, and a lot of it!
➔ Create a vision board of the tiny that you want.
Pinterest is a great resource where you can save these photos in its own designated folders. Create a folder for interior finish, exterior finish, interior layout, window types and placements, colour scheme, lighting fixture, bathroom fixtures like toilet and vanity type.
➔ Dig deep into what matters to you. This will help determine the layout and the amenities you will need.
Perhaps you love cooking? We can create more space in the kitchen. Maybe soaking in the tub is not your thing? We can create a custom shower instead. Will you be offgrid, and consider a flushing toilet an item of luxury? Then we can accommodate for the alternative.
The key is in the details, so collect as many photos as you possibly can!
